We can learn from these racers. This class was a hydro class. The need for safety cells resulted in a switch to a tunnel hull. The tunnel celled boat was much heavier compared to the hydro and they thought non competitive to the hydro. This is a video of the early celled tunnels in the same race as the hydro's. The newest celled tunnels have a much lower cell. There are different classes within the race.

The safety cell came about because of the class speed. Safety cells are required in the 100 mph classes I believe. The pro guys could comment on that more accurately. 750 and 1100 cc classes.

I notice they are running studs on the power headband they look large. I'd like to see how they work the adaptor plate and steering bars with that setup.

Rick (Dok) has a Yamaha 30hp that he has offered to let me use and test with next spring. I think that will be a good combo. I built this hull for a Mariner Magnum 40hp, but will try the 30 first. What engine sizes are you thinking of using? 25, 30, 40+?

NOTE: Class in ANY type hull.....no minimum length.....just minimum weight....simple rules.
Clubmans Class is open to all those over 15 years of age.
Engines: 25hp Stock Outboard or 30hp 2cylinder Stock Outboard
Hull design is free Ski Boat, Flattie, Skiff, Hydroplane, Tunnel Boat what ever hull you think works best with your Engine Package. All Boats must be fitted with a foot or Deadmans hand throttle. No Tiller Steering is Permitted.
Competitors must wear Safety Gear Helmets, Lifejacket's in accordance with the NZPBA Rule Book.
Midsection: Must be Standard with ID tag on.
Gearbox: Standard IE: Forward, Reverse and Neutral. Nose Cones and water pickup modifications are permitted
Propellor: Open.
Fuel: Pump Gas Only.
Numbers: To be on a Vertical Plane Behind the Rear of the Driver.
Life Jackets: Collered life jackets with crutch straps to NZ safety standards.
Weight: Minimum weight of Boat, Driver, Engine and Fuel to be 180kg. APPROXIMATELY 400 LBS.
Steering Cable: Wire galvanised or Stainless to be replaced every 2 years with proof of purchase for RWOF.4mm minimum thickness 7x19 woven strand or similar specs. Spectra allowed.


NZPBA falls under NZ Boating federation which falls under UIM.....same as CBF here in Canada.
So you could have this class here.

They also have a Junior [12 year old class] as well.
