Saw Hevi kevi’s post on a 12” mid section for a 3cyl omc. Very nice work.
Here is the start of my attempt to make a 13.5” (3.5” shorter than a stock short shaft) midsection for a omc 31.8ci engine.

Any suggestions are welcome.
I haven’t figured out what to do with the drive shaft yet. Maybe a floating coupling. Also concerned about the water pump.
One other thought is to have hydraulic or manual lift on the swivel pin.

Welded up
I think I might do away with the rubber mounts.

can't see your pic use tinypic or something else to upload it, photobucket no longer allows web sharing unless you pay for the service

Nice. Looks like you're better at welding that shitty cast aluminum than I am. I have limited experience on aluminum. I never did finish mine up. It's still sitting on the shelf. One of these days...

The link seems to work for me. Not sure why LittleCharger is having problems.

HeviKevi. Start by putting a ball on your tungsten by setting your machine to dc+ and striking an arc on a piece of copper. Do it any time your electrode gets contaminated. Clean the work well too. Sometimes it’s hard to stay focused and motivated on a project. I hope you finish it.

Here are some pics of trim indicators. One for tabs and one for the motor. Just made out of lawnmower throttle cables. Will need to add a third, when I finish my hydraulic lift swivel bracket. The top cable is for engine trim and the bottom is for tabs. The zero represents neutral (parallel to the bottom of the boat)

It’s nice to have a few days off to get back at my projects. Here is a pic of the midsection with some plates welded on to blend the top to the bottom. And an exhaust port.

I saw that. A three cylinder. I wonder what the lifespan of those gears is. It would probably be easier to make an adapter for the gear foot to the tower. I may have to try it.
I haven’t worked much on my midsection. I’ve got the winter blues.
