I guess what is needed is a new class - frakensteined stock than it would be more clearly understood.

That would be "Improved Stock"

It's not to difficult to unleash more power from a stock XR4 ...don't forget they are basically a 200. 200 hp on a Vking is easily a 85mph boat with 90 within reach :). Back in the day I am pretty sure Dave Mac did this with one of Tucker's CE ' Kings. Also I think the boat was featured on the one page flyer they put-out.

This has been my feeling/suspicion the whole time. I know the differences between a yamaha 150 and 200 are very few and you'd never guess that the motor wasn't stock. I assume the same holds true with the merc and it makes all the numbers make sense.

Ok Found it...this is the 90mph King with XR4...BTW Stock XR4 means Stock "Powerhead"...this does include things like removal of Adv Module, adds of Solid Mounts and LWP etc.

Agreed on the unleashing more power which I think is the underlying theme in these discussions on these boards that they are tweaked outboards no longer producing their factory rated HP.

"Improved 150!"

From what I've read the porting on the xr6 150 is not the same as the 2.5 200. The porting on the xr4 150 is almost identical to the 2.4 200.

Is the Yamaha 150 and 200 porting the same? I was always under the impression that the 150 was simply a choked down 200.

The proV 150 has the same porting as a 200 but a tuner that is very close in size to a 70 and small carbs....the later vmax 150s are actually horizontal reed motors with a tight exhaust plate and small carbs. I "helped" a buddy do a vmax 150 with big carbs, tuner, exhaust plate from an early proV and Kottman heads...I'd call it a weak 225...stock porting though...bring your measuring tape

Bring your measuring tape.. lol... Thats funny.

Dubber and I spoke at length about this yesterday afternoon. It seems that what is beiing done it that they are taking the best 150 block.... Finding another year that had the best carb/injection.. Best this and that from all kinds of years and because these are "stock" parts.. Than the motor is considered stock. To me... Stock is off the show room floor. But who cares what I think?
