How do I keep rodents from chewing on my fuel lines and steering cables? It happened for the third time. I had to use electrical tape to patch my fuel line enough to get my boat to the ramp on Saturday morning.

This is going to sound stupid but here goes.....
My sister runs a small resort, they had a problem keeping mice out of the cabins in the winter.
A local suggested laying down bounce sheets and dried bay leaf on the beds and in the cupboards.
They tried it last winter and it worked, no mouse droppings to clean up in the spring.
Worth a try, it's cheap and your boat will smell nice(r).

Red squirrels are the biggest culprit to your problem, keep a close eye.

the bouce sheets work,been using them for years! I cover the sender wires on pwc's speedo wiring and depth gauge transducer wires with pex tubing or toilet tank feed line! to keep the varmints off![it only takes two replacements before owners agree to the cost of putting it on] the fuel lines can be changed to braided lines! I put wire loom cover over the steering lines/cables and remove it when in use! I haven't had any problems here,but my neighbour has and this solution seems to work! I find that the 99% of the rodents prefer the taste of honda outboard rigging!

p.s.-- merc i/o guys leave your drive down and steering straight if water depth permits!keeps the little bastards off your shift/main bellows!

I'll try tying bounce to the lines next summer. The critters have never gone into the boat. The external fuel and steering lines at the transom are apparently enough fun.

David, when we first bought the Stang it wasn't our intent to store it in the winter. But after we did all the mods to it and cleaned it inside, outside and underneath, I just couldn't bear to drive it through slush, snow, salt and sand. I don't even like when it gets dirty from the rain. So I decided to keep my '02 Concorde and drive it during the winter. With 316,000 kms it's not worth anything to sell, but it's been the most reliable car I've ever had. Might as well drive it through the harsh stuff.
