I was very interested to see if this rule would pass for 2024. I am surprised it did.

Many Race Clubs and Associations have had 4 stroke outboard discussions the last few years about including stock 4 stroke outboards into some of their classes. Some club members have shown their clubs and Associations that these motors can be competitive.
There is always a mixed reaction to the idea. Most times the discussion get heated to the point that nothing happens.

I think the deciding factor will be the boat counts and the change in the number of members. If the club or association sees a lot of 4 strokes competing and membership increasing. Those clubs or associations will likely expand the use of 4 strokes in other classes.
It’s hard to change traditions when nothing has changed in decades.

It's great that there are now new engines available that anybody can buy and race. Hard to find parts definitely keep people from entering. Hopefully we will see something similar with T-boats in the future.

The Mercury four stroke was run in T750 for a number of years as it’s an eligible motor. What are you thinking/ looking for? Eligible motors etc. always happy to chat…cheers

T Class original concept was to get many makes and models of 2 and 4 stroke outboards into the class as possible. And to be able to adjust as newer models came on the market. Currently there is a shortage of parts especially 15 inch midsections and nitro style gearcases. That was the reason for looking into the production of a universal blank 15 inch midsection .

Right from the rule book

(3-A-1) * T Class Outboard Racing Division Classes*
1. GT3O - 30 horsepower prop shaft rated
2 T750 - 3 cylinder models up to 750 c.c., 2 cylinder models up to 849 c.c (exception Mercury 3 cylinder twin carburetor [ 49 cubic inch] is a probationary motor for 2018 only (all boats running this motor will be eligible for points)
3. T850 – 3 cylinder motors. Capacity of the motor from 850 cc to 1000 cc Motors are restricted to production stock 3Ohp motors on GT 30, altered stock 50 to 60 horsepower motors in T-750, 70 to 75 hp altered stock motors in T-850.

(3-A-2) *Low emission engines and 4 strokes*
Low Emission Engines and 4 stroke models are encouraged. Depending on performance, motors race in either T750 or T850. Their 60 hp model displacement can exceed 1000 c.c.
Low emission engines complying with 2006 EPA Regulations will be allowed in GT30, T750 and T850

GT30 class is different from T750 and T850....”production stock 30 hp motors “ This would be prop shaft rated horsepower. It’s the entry level into T Class. . You can use exactly the same hull as in T750 or T850. You can run any production bone stock 30 hp motor be it a 2 stroke or 4 stroke.

RULE * 4 * AGE LIMITS *
(4A)* The age requirements for T Class Outboard racing shall be as follows; The
minimum age of 14 for GT3O and age of 16 for T750 and T850, no maximum age.
(4-B) * Age shall be determined by the birth date.

With the new 4 stroke motors coming to stock outboard we are starting to see the first wood sit in seat runabouts. O’Connor Racing hydroplane have one available. It is sold by Richmond Aero Marine. They look similar in design to the European GT30 wing shape hulls.

This is another one. Not sure where it is from because many countries run small motor V hull classes. We have been slower to catch on to the trend.

I think the picture is misleading on the Richmond Aero Marine site. O'Connor doesn't builds any sit down boats that I'm aware of, we race one of their hydros.
