It’s unfortunate that the race coverage only focuses on Paul and a couple of other drivers. Many of the other drivers went on to become very successful in the class. Paul’s Lee Craft built Critchfield with mercury 650XS was the dominant boat that year. Paul sold that boat after that season and in later years Paul returned to race in T850 class and was very successful once again. Herb White with the black Voodoo 650XS powered also quit racing in this class . Herb returned 3 years later to race in Sport C with a comp Mini Voodoo 40 mercury powered. Jeremy Dunn with the yellow boat was running a Nissan 50 hp. Jeremy was sponsored by Rankin Marine with support later from Speedmaster Marine. Rankin Marine was instrumental in the start of Sports C class in 1992 with their “POP” team boats..Coke boat...Diet Coke boat ..Sprite boat. Jeremy repowered that yellow boat with Todd Clark’s 650XS and became a top runner. Jeremy flipped at the Sudbury Nationals while in the lead. Tammy Wolf later raced that boat.
I have history with all of these racers. I purchased Paul’s boat years later and it became the 911 boat raced in 1995-96. I purchased many of Herb Whites 650XS parts. The original Nissan 50D that Jeremy raced I purchased as a parts motor in 2012. In 2021 Speedmaster put up for sale the spare powerhead and the original raced gearcase from the motor. I purchased those parts as well.
