Don, do you have any knowledge, or have you seen and XCalibur Deltas racing? the 14ft Delta?
Someone told me there were at least a couple in Canada but I forget where I heard that.

Matt, best to answer it here.
YES, there were at least two. The other was raced with a safety cell. Last time I saw that one, it had a 90 yamaha on it. I think I saw one race 1979 in FE. The hull is a larger delta with the extra length in the middle. It likely was not competitive due to weight. The CBF FE boats were very light...600 to 700 lbs. In T850 class with the increased horsepower, faster speeds and rougher water conditions....it could be very competitive. The problem with these old boats is the added hull weight and all the labour necessary to get them back to being competitive.
Many racers have wanted to see a NEW IMPROVED CRITCHFIELD ; well put a critchfield deck on this hull with 4 inches of built in setback and you may have that boat!

Don, how would you fit the Critchfield deck on the hull and what changes would you make to the boat?

I don't think it would be too difficult...if I wasn't 76 years young....I would do it.

First I would make sure the original deck was straight and that the original deck could be removed from the hull cleanly.
Then I would lay a new Top Gun Critchfield deck over the original deck.
I would trim the edges of the critchfield deck where necessary at the rear portion for the best fit.
I wouldn't alter the seat position on the critchfield at all....the extra boat length would be in the bow.
You would need to trim off the front edges on the critchfield so it will lay flat on the original deck.
I would glass the critchfield deck to the original then sand and feather the two so everything is straight.
That new deck is the plug for the new deck mold.

Most racers like the steering position as far back as they can with the 13 foot critchfield.
On the new 14 the position is farther back.
Most don't like running the rear cowl on the boat.....I would fill in the sides of the interior all the way to the back
This is going to be a 75 mph plus boat so I would not add more lift characteristics to the original bottom of the boat.
I would only straighten and blue print the bottom.....one change......the pad would be 1 inch deeper.
If possible I would build a 4 inch setback into the hull.

A 13 foot Critchfield or delta is very dangerous at 70 plus mph
This 14 should be a safer boat.

We did the 4hr drive a few years ago to go look at this boat when it was all yellow. The boat looked like a piece of bacon, waves and terrible body work everywhere. Very cool hull but needed to be stripped back to nothing and rebuild from scratch

I like 30 hp yamaha short shafts so I follow them on Kijiji.
Most of the models are 1987 to 1992.
Mint ones use to sell for $900. to $1200.
Most were under $600.

They can ask what ever they want......the finally price will be what the buyer is willing to pay and the price the seller is willing to sell.
There were some high priced motors sold, so that explains the asking prices. Likely people without a lot of knowledge purchased those motors. So why not ask big money...you can always lower the price!
