Some cool footage here. That right hand sweeper is insanely close to the wall. There is something about interesting courses where it would be fun as heck to run even if you weren't directly battling with, or chasing, another boat.

old memories..1987...stock 49 EP motor...won all 4 heats ..a month later finished 3rd at kkk behind Terry Strack and Jeff Titus..best motor I ever had...

Many of the people that raced in the years 1987 to 1991 will tell you they were the best years of racing in the class. We saw the introduction of the VooDoo into the class, we saw the Critchfield hull start to become popular. The boats were faster and more challenging to drive. Power trim was not allowed until 1992.
You did your set up and you raced a heat. Between heats you worked on the set up and tried to guess and out think the competition for the next heat. Starting dock position was a draw from a hat. Your prop selection would depend on your start position and the start position of your major competition.

1991 was the last year FE/EP was a 50 cubic inch class under Canadian CBF rules. In 1992 the motor size was expanded to 53 cubic inch to include the new 52 cubic inch 60 hp Mercury and add legal power trim. When PPR [Professional Powerboat Racing] took over they changed the class name to FV, In 1998 PPR expanded the cubic inch to 60 again to included the new 59 cubic inch Mercury. In 2000 PPR revised the rules to include the 56 OMC.

look how fast Steve Huff was running that Delta flat..I set our thrust block on the loose side for calm water and thew out all the weight we could knowing we would need everything to keep up with him and ended up hanging it out a little more than I had wanted after the wind picked up..back then we ran a little wedge on the rear few inches of the pad so you cuold back off a little and settle the nose down...lol..I think it was easier back then as motors and parts were plentiful and boats ran fairly even being all stock..props,plugs,jets and timing and that was it..stock reeds,air box etc..at KKK they pulled my head,intake/carbs,flywheel and gearcase and that was just for 3rd place...Thanks for bringing back old memories and letting me share with you..Jim
