Do you T boat guys use drag foils on your boats? I use one on my Grandsport and it really helps hole shot. Wondering if I should look into putting one on my son's Voodoo that now has an 89' Merc 60hp. The prop will probably be a chopper and the trim at its lowest position is definitely not negative trim . The OMC that we just took off the boat has a big whale tail and it had decent hole shot.

You should not need a drag Foil, my T boat has always planned well ,( with cleaver props) with the exception of one prop...which cupping it fixed it.. To get negative trim you could install a set of wedges

Havent needed one on either of our little boats. I second the wedges or if using a setback bracket look for a hevi kevi setback plate. I really like the one ive got on our delta

I run one on mine because it's so slow it needs help staying on plane on the straights

Thanks guys, will try the 60 Mercury as is this spring. The boat came with a whale tail on the lower by the previous owner, just figured it was needed. Sure does help though, it will easily plane with over 500lbs in the boat.
13Checkmate, what is a Hevi Kevi setback plate?

Its a small setback plate built by a member off this site. It has built in tuck and has minimal setback. It also has adjustment for fine tuning between engine mount holes

Or just buy two wedge plates from Bob's Machine, not expensive and relatively light. That's what I did when I had trouble getting my Rapid Craft on plane, even with one of Kevin's setback plates. The wedge plates allowed for minimal setback and created sufficient tuck-in, now easily up on plane. I also just tried a slightly lower pitch 4 blade prop [11 5/8" x 20 pitch on 247 lb Merc FormulaRace] and that gets the boat on plane really easily, even with a passenger.

Wedges sound like the best idea.
Tom, what kind of 4 blade prop are you running? I have always ran 4 blades on my Grandsport and a Vector before that. I would assume our older 60hp Merc would need a little less pitch than you run?
