Here is a 2016 up-date from Japan.
Their class now has a wide range of motors both 2 stroke and 4 stroke and a wide range of boats. Many of their hulls are former APBA boats from the USA....Grand Prix, Hoffman, Mirage...old Sport C, SST45, SST60 from Europe old S550 and S850 boats

In the pits
You can see how they have been able to blend the older motors in with the new 4 strokes. Makes for interesting racing and attracts a wider base of racers and fans to the sport.

Rules look simple..pure stock motors
-12 to 13 foot boats ....30 to 40 hp
-14 foot boats ...50 hp

NEW SPEED CAT

The original boats first appeared in the early 90's/ Bruce Rankin purchased the molds from the USA. The first 3 boats were heavy for a Sport C.
The later ones were much lighter. Marty built some MOD VP ones using part of a Delta hull in the tunnel. The TRUE tunnels are better, They do make a good lake boat and they sit high in the water. The key is to not over power them. With 40 to 50 hp 3 cylinder Yamaha or Tohatsu they run low 60's. Easy to rig. With these small motors single cable steering is fine. You do not need string steering.
Some people just cannot drive a T boat style hull. These small tunnels are VERY easy to drive.

Not a bad buy provided the boat is good...$975.00

Look at all the different makes and models of outboards racing. Sure looks more interesting compared to the same-same races we see in many of our classes. If you want to get NEW people interested it our sport we need more variety in the SHOW.

that's nice. they used a couple of my photos without asking. I would have said: "yes, for sure. put my mark below the photo." but still..

I'm glad there is an article about racing small boats. Very cool. Glad our t-boats are getting the exposure.
