Over on http://www.boatracingfacts.com , there is a thread entitled "Building a Looper Beast" that was started by
Richard Austin out of Lansing Michigan. He ran Quincy Loopers in the 1960's, and won his fair share of Championships over the years.

For those who have never heard of a Quincy Looper, take a peek on youtube under that name and there are several vids of him running his 6 cylinder screamers around the country.
Sadly, the american made Looper was made all but obsolete by the introduction of the imported German Konig, Swedish Crescent, and British Anzani racing outboards in the mid 60's. Quincy came back in the 70's with an engine they called the Quincy Z in the 250cc, 350cc and RB PRO classes, but the high cost of production of these hand made motors and with the evolvement of the Konig racing engines, they sadly began to lose popularity with those who liked to win.

In this thread, some 30+ pages of it, we follow Richards dream of producing a 100 cu. inch Alky Looper. The largest racing versions produced by Quincy Welding were 60 cubes, with 4 known 90 cube motors built for testing and evaluation only......they never made it to the race course.

Richard spent years developing his own design, milled the block out of a solid piece of billet aluminum, cast all his own parts etc. to have a fire up of the completed project take place this past weekend. I'm sure he'll have it on the water before Winter, so stay tuned.

Have a read here, you won't believe your eyes: http://www.boatracingfacts.com/forums/showthread.php?14110-Building-A-looper-Beast
