Right now my plan is to get it running well and get some decent seat time this summer to get used to the boat. Next summer I plan to start racing with the US F1 Powerboat tour.

This summer I joined Mendana Racing out of Miami as a crew member helping out both Carlos and Jose Jr with their F1 boats. I enjoy working on the boats and have learned a lot. Everyone I talk to at the races is very supportive and willing to help out someone new to the sport. It will be nice to finally start running and working on my own boat as well. I'm taking it slow, making sure not to rush anything, and have some of the best people around helping me along the way.

Hey Morgan, cool project and very impressed with your progress.

I got a text from Scott last night asking about the tools you need.

I have everything and you are welcome to them. Can assist also if you need.

Hey Dean. Thanks, can't wait to get it in the water. If you could help me get the engine set up that would be awesome!

Sent you a PM.

M, when and where were you thinking to launch/test?....you want the right lake and rescue/tow boat on site.

Thanks for coming out today Dean. It was nice to meet you, and I look forward to working with you more and getting the boat finished and running well.

I will likely be launching and testing from our place on Midland Bay on calm evenings when there aren't may boats out on the water. I want to avoid launching it at busy public ramps. Just want to get a feel for the boat and get it running well this summer. I will have other people and boats with me when I run it, but I'm not going to push it hard until I'm comfortable with it AND have a proper safety crew present (ie at a race or race test sessoin).

I finally took the boat out today and got a bit of seat time.

The boat felt good, but the engine isn't running the way it should. It feels like it has no bottom end power, slightly better mid range but still a bit sluggish, and it seems to hit a wall at 4800-5000rpm at WOT. It should be turning up to 7100-7500rpm. Timing is set at 24 deg BTDC, 072 main jets, 14:15 SSM VI, turning a 10 1/4 x 17 1/2 3 blade. Tip of the gear case is slightly over an inch above the bottom of the sponsons

It ran 57mph at 4800-5000rpm, which puts it around 23-26% prop slip, which seems pretty high.

Any suggestions as to what I should change to get the rpms up?

I took it out on Sunday and it ran great. Very rich jetting still (from break-in), zero time spent on setup, running a very consistent 95 mph. Lots more left in it with a bit more tuning and better props.

Here's some footage of it running on the weekend. Still getting used to flying it in a straight line before I start throwing it into hard turns at speed, but the more I drive it, the more I like it. I can't wait to get it out on the race course next summer!
