17" might only allow you to trim up 2/3 of the way without hitting the back of the boat. I see they offer a 17", 21" and 26" setback. Consider having enough setback to trim motor up all the way in case you need to change or inspect your prop or gearcase.

I agree...but...I think the amount of vertical lift will make up for the lack of room. I think with twin big blocks running the 24" of setback required to fully trim the motors would result in some serious porpoising issues lol.

Yea i didnt really have another option considering i negotiated him down to 1900$ shipped to my door.... And the new ones are over 6k

yes im sure if you need more setback. some setback brackets can be added for sure.

Doug we actually thought/hoped it was a 21" at first. but then when we found out it was a 17" and started thinking about it, the geometry of the of the 17 allows the hyd cylinders to have less force on them and with that in mind have a better chance that the cylinders wont fail or seep while driving in the water or on the trailer. one big concern.

so i think its good only being 17" but not for setback reasons.

Ah some nice 24" or 30" Kiekhaefer k planes will take care of the porpoising.....and allow you to compensate the ride angle when you are driving in 5 footers coming at you on 45 degree angle ;)

ya that's a good deal. I agree you can always add some setback spacers if needed.

The only issue I see is that as you raise the porta lift you are decreasing your setback. Therefore 17" setback full down, As you start trimming up your 17" setback keeps decreasing which will change the weight distribution and perhaps performance?
What if you installed a 4" or 6" hydraulic jack plate on your porta lift. Now you could play with optimum setback and then still have some vertical height adjustment. When you are coming into a shallow are you will even have more vertical lift?

On another note Doug do you remember where Trial & Error's motor hight was in comparison to where they fell on the Vee?
