My opinion......it’s a good option, but not the best option!

Reasons:
If your not racing in SST 60 class then there is no reason to build an SST 60 Spec powerhead.
If you’re a lake racer you don’t need to be concerned about having a legal powerhead. You want a powerhead that performs well and is durable with a trouble free long life span.

There is a lot of information on this site about building 3 cylinder powerheads be they OMC , Yamaha, Mercury or tohatsu/Nissan.

Decide what you need for your “application “ and go from there. You can do your build in stages if you’re not experienced in engine building. Start with a stock powerhead and improve it year to year. It makes for a fun hobby.

A TBoat with a T850 engine is a handful to drive. Any of those motors provide extreme performance for the size of the boat. They will all push the boat over 70 mph. A top race T850 will run 75 mph plus. BE CAREFUL! kNOW YOUR LIMITS!
