I am seeing more used 4 strokes up for sale ....just the motor.
The four strokes have been around for several years now.
Many times the seller says they are up grading to a larger motor.
Most times the asking price is 2/3's the price of a new one and the motors are 6 to 12 years old.
New motor prices have increased in the last couple of years so sellers must feel they can sell for higher than the dealer offers as a trade in. Paying 2/3's of the new price for a motor will over 400 hours does not make sense to me. 4 strokes needing repairs loose almost all their value due to the cost to repair. Chance is pretty good that the used 6 year and older 4 stroke is going to need repair sooner than later. The new 4 strokes come with a very long warranty. That is likely the other reason we see a lot of 6 to 8 year old used 4 strokes for sale. Owners want to sell them as soon as they have no warranty left. NOS maybe the best buy to get a better deal.
