Wow Hounddog, this looks amazing!!
I would suggest a push on the life jackets now.

The rest looks in line and very doable!!

Here are their 2017 rules

2017 AOF EAST RULES for 660 DRAGS
AOF East rules.

30 mod
Any 30hp and under motor any mod and any fuel other then alcohol on mono or tunnel style runabout boat.

40 mod
Any motor 60 ci and under yes that includes the 70 Yamaha any mods any fuel other then alcohol. Fuel additives are legal. All boats must be mono hull or tunnel runabout style boats.

90 mod.
This is a new class this year this will be any motor 90hp and under from the factory. Any fuel other then alcohol fuel additives are legal boat must be mono hull tunnel or runabout style boat.

Outlaw.
Any motor 3cyl from the factory with any mods nitrous and alcohol and any additive is legal. Boat must be mono hull tunnel or runabout style boat.

All racing will be from idle -7 mph start 660 feet

Safety
Long sleeves and pants with close toe shoes be worn in the boat.
Dot approved helmet (NO dirt bike helmets !!!!)
Good life jacket preferably with neck support and leg straps. (((By next year we will require a life line or equivalent vest so now is a good time to start looking)))
Kill switch must be in working condition.
Fire extinguisher mounted in the boat.
All fuel cells and gas tanks nitrous bottles must be mounted or strapped in the boat.

New !!!
All drivers need some kind of communication in the boat with someone in their pit crew.

Very few rules!!
no minimum weighs
no minimum boat length
unlimited choice for boat material[s]

TIME TO GET THINKING!!
Now that we know the 3 cylinder class is doable......WHAT CLASS OR CLASSES ABOVE WOULD BE OF INTEREST TO YOU?
This is totally new to me and I don't think anyone in Ontario currently has one of these drag boats.
The distance is 660 feet. It is all about ET for 660 feet...not top end at 660 feet.
What hull to run..mono or tunnel...wood...composite..aluminium...production boat or homemade...SO MANY OPTIONS!
An SLT would seem to be a good choice,
What motor? Do you want to run a mix of different parts from different motors?
These boats will be FAST! We tried a stock 30 hp yamaha on a 12 foot WC aluminum tiller and it was a hand full. I think the problem will be getting a combo that handles the speed.
OUTLAW will be a real challenge for anyone.

WHAT COMBO WOULD YOU RUN?

That would be a: 40 mod
Any motor 60 ci and under yes that includes the 70 Yamaha any mods any fuel other then alcohol. Fuel additives are legal. All boats must be mono hull or tunnel runabout style boats.

I am sure we will hear from Steve, Tom and a few others about an SLT hull. There must be a reason the east coast southern boys don't run SLT hulls.

Re: SLT's
Only downside I can see in running an SLT is that they don't plane out as quickly as a well set up mono hull.
Quick enough to give it a try though.
Will stay open to possibilities but after 6 years of motorcycle racing we're kinda burned out.
Fire extinguisher in an STL is a strange concept.

They have changed their rules. A couple of T guys have posts on this thread.
http://www.boatracingfacts.com/forums/s ... -cyl-Races

The clubs have accepted us as a class. Both clubs now share the same rule book.

DSRA 3 cyl rules
1. Boat must pass safety inspection. Battery, fuel tank must be securely strapped or bolted.
2. Working fire extinguisher must be secure and within reach of driver.
3. No electronics. No trim computers, no timing computers, ect...
4. Fuel will be limited to pump gas and race fuel, no nitro, no alcohol, NO NOS. No added injection, blowers turbos, power adders ect.
5. Driver must be seated and use steering wheel, no tillers.
6. Boats must be Flat bottom, V bottom or Tunnel hull. No Hydro's or outrigger style hulls.
7. Must use production fishing style lower unit (shiftable style) no quickies and use motor driven
cooling system no external pumps.
8. Outboards only, must have started life as a fishing motor. Can used diff. manufacture lower to
power head (Merc lower/OMC power head) (40 lower to 70-90 power head) as long as both were fishing
production. (60SST allowed) NO 1/2 V6 engines
homemade mids are allowed, adapter plate or cut factory mids allowed (70 head to 40 lower ect...)
9. Outboards will be limited to 86ci. This will allow the 90 Mercury Carb engines, not the
Optimax engines (92ci)
10. 42ci - 44ci engines rig total 780lbs
45ci - 61ci engines rig total 800lbs
62ci - 86ci engines fig total 880lbs
11. Stroker and big bore engines will be allowed but will fall into the CI weight limit rules (42ci Yamaha can be brought to 49ci
this will put you in 45ci-61ci class 800lbs)
12. You must have a pit crew to launch and pick up boat. Must have communication between driver and crew
anytime the boat is launched. Boats must have provisions for strapping during the weighing process.

These rules are subject to change with a vote from DSRA officials to adequately keep the differences between
engine/hull combinations as fair as possible. We want anyone who wants to race a 3 cyl to be able to do so
and be competitive.
