I could drive a Voo Doo or a Charger but had to learn to drive my SS2000. If someone could drive a 13' Ally, could he or she drive a 20' Allison?

It depends upon which model 20 ft Allison. The XR 2001 is probably the easiest to drive. Similar to the 13ft. The XR 2002, and XB 2002 are the second easiest if the lip on the pad is correct. Next in line is the XB 2003, it's a little trickier in that you generally have to shift weight to balance trolling motors and seating on the right side. The most difficult is the 2003 Grand Sport. You have to balance weight as well as deal with the high deck & windshield that effect air flow at high speed. Any wind coming from the side will through the GS off the pad. The SS2000 is easy at lower speeds, but can be tricky at 90mph+ speeds.

In all cases I'm rating the difficulty at very high speeds, 90mph+. We own a XR 2002, a XB 2002 & a 13ft. Allison we race. We had a 2003 Grand Sport that ran 104-105 with two people. With one person we would have probably hurt ourselves. We have driven all the others many times.

thom, I would imagine that the higher the speed the quicker you have to respond, or does the larger boat equal it out and make it very similar?

The smaller boats are somewhat more forgiving, primarily due to considerably lower speeds. In short, your more apt to get hurt making a mistake with the larger faster boats. Yes, you have to respond more quickly with the faster boats.

90 is my target speed for my SS200, and I've been there. When I've got the engine height and trim right, it will run 90 on a string as they say, with little input.

I've always thought my younger brother's inputs were too big for the SS2000. He can run an 18 Charger DL in the 70's easily but not my SS. There is a difference. It's not that the SS is hard to drive, it's just different.

Is a 13 Ally different from a VooDoo? When I had a VooDoo my brother could drive it.

I imagine that the DL is like driving the SK Charger, they drive them selves, the easiest boat I ever driven.

VooDoo easier to drive in straight line, but worse in turns, than the 13ft. Ally

the fix for voodoo cornering is to build up the pad. It needs to be 1" tall.

That would work, but how does that effect top end?
