Well I have had some more learning experience with 12 foot aluminum boats.
There are lots of them for sale. They are hard to sell compared to the larger sizes.
Forget new they are very costly.
Most are up north.
Most are well used.
Most are still in good shape, but are not attractive in appearance.
Only found one V bottom 12 footer. They are rare. Many sellers think their hull is a V hull but the boat is not one. They are referring to the bow not the stern.
Only found 2 boats with 20 inch transom.
Yet to find a 12 footer, 200 lb, deep and wide, V hull with a 20 inch transom.
That is what I would like. Put my light set back and 17 inch 30 Yamaha and see if it does 45 mph.

YOU could have one made to fit. All depends on what you're willing to pay. http://theironworker.com/ Scott will build what you want, not sure what guage he will go to on a light 12' . or Stanley http://www.stanleyboats.ca/stanley/recreational.html

All I know about 12 and 14 foot tin boats is that my father-in-law never sells them for less than what he paid for them.

I can see that being true provided you buy a used one. They hold their value. Good ones will always sell. With over 100 for sale now, it would be a harder sell. Just like Northbase said in his younger days..when he over powered their tin boat and the boat broke. There are so many boats in fair shape for 500 or less that you can get one of them and break it. That is a better idea compared to the double hull repair I thought of first.

Here is a V bottom small aluminum and could be reworked into a race boat similar to this thread.
$800.00 is not a bad starting point.
