what do you guys use to keep the carbon from building up in your 2 strokes ?
Yamaha Ringfree, seafoam, Mercury Quickleen , Evinrude 2 Plus 4 Fuel Conditioner etc etc.

is one better than the other for not only doing a de-carb, but for keeping the system cleaner..

in the uk we dont use additives as much as in many other countries, but I want to start using something to (a) stop
the fuel going off and gumming up so fast, and (b) to get rid of any carbon build up.

Obviously we do get a build up of carbon on our 2 strokes and we get many conflicting stories of product A has
too much alcohol and product B is the same stuff in a different bottle to product C etc.

in the uk Seafoam for example is £16 for 15 ounces, ($32 Canadian) so its pretty expensive, and cant even find anywhere over here that sells ring free by Yamaha.

we can get Mercury power tune and the brp 2 plus 4 and seafoam etc, but at a high price.

what do you use , and why ?
.

scotch brite pads and wd-40..

i used to run some sea-foam thru my yamaha it did lower the amount of carbon on the piston tops..not sure if it made any difference in how it performed... my merc gets inspected and cleaned often and i run quality oil and fuel so i don't usually see a lot of carbon build up in it..

seafoam does melt carbon. won't hurt anything..

I like seafoam for a fuel treatment in both my boat and in my snowmobile. Carbon is a non issue...good fuel, good oil and rpm. At work we use powertune on small motors that do a lot of trolling. It works well if you catch it in time. I've seen 9.9's with the exhaust tube closed right off...powertune won't fix that lol. That's always the guy running CTC oil or shell nautilus...

IMO if you're doing this as preventative maintenance any of those products will work fine.

I like seafoam as well. I also use stabil or the CT equivalent on a regular basis.

What about oil? What do you guys prefer? I use amsoil dominator in the race boats. I also heard that Yamalube is good. I wonder if using Yamalube in a Merc will make it last like a Yamaha? :)

I run yamalube in everything...merc premium plus is excellent as well. I'll make the switch when I run out of yamalube.

im an amsoil fan. i ran dominator in my 260, when i took it apart this fall it was very clean and had a nice film of oil on everything.

if for some reason i couldn't get amsoil the second i needed it i wouldn't hesitate to run merc oil ..

I use SeaFoam in all my personal & work power equipment. Generators, quick cuts, chainsaws, blowers, rock drills.....you name it. Stuff I put away 4 months ago with premium premix & SeaFoam will fire rite up. Love the stuff. Buy it by the gallon.
Double dosed the fuel tank in the Newphie boat with SeaFoam out on December 27 when I pulled it out of the water. Topped it off with fresh fuel yesterday and dropped it in. Motor didn't make 2 revolutions and it fired up, no fast idle, just sat there humming away like it was the middle of summer....and it's an Etec!!
Used ring free in 4 stroke sleds with very good results as well.
Oil.....Amsoil full synthetic ( usually Dominator) or Redline.
Good oil, good filters and good fuel are cheaper then pistons & down time!!

not too sure about the amsoil dominator as there own site says not for use as a tcw3 oil ????..
it says only to use that for racing and engine that come apart a lot for inspection, we dont get that over here anyway so dont affect me, but thought its weird to put that on their site .

we get 2 types of premium plus oil, mercury premium plus and quicksilver premium plus !!!
are these the same oil just in different coloured containers, or is the mercury oil different in any way ? there is a price difference and the quicksilver is easier to get.

i can get evinrude xd50, quicksilver premium plus, yamalube 2M(but that's semi synthetic). cant find fully synthetic yamalube here.
