80's Charger SK!

Hey guys, I picked up a charger DL over the winter and have been slowly working on restoring it back to running condition.

It's got a few nicks and scratches that need to be filled and repaired, have to finish the flooring, the seats and of course I'm going to need a suitable motor to get this thing flying!

This is my first time trying to restore a boat with little to no experience to be honest so any advice would be appreciated, although I don't expect to have this thing in absolute 100% mint condition but at very least looking decent and going fast!

I was told it's a DL but after looking up the charger SK I would say yes you are correct lol

Yup that's an SK...kinda looks like the jack plate is on backwards.

There doesn't seem to be many members with SKs...cool boat. Where are you from?

That jack plate setup looks ready to run a 12"!!
Woulda been a handfull with a 20"

Yeah I was thinking the jack plate looked a little off and it actually came off of a mini charger so yeah I might have to invest in a more appropriate jack plate for this boat haha.

I'm from Toronto but boat up in Apsley

Nice looking ride, love the early chargers, you will get some great setup information on here for sure. The jackplate is on backwards btw a hydrallic 6" plate would be better for all around use , Paul at top gun marine is on here and usually has some used ones around. Get rid of the single cable steering as well.Any ideas on what you are going to use for power?

Good looking boat, congrats! Bill is running his right at 80 with a 235, I think he's 6" back.

YEP, we are one of the few with an SK. We got ours new in the late 80's. One of the last well constructed ones. No problems with it at all. Boathouse kept so even the interior is original. We got it for a ski boat. There were 7 to 10 SKs in our area on Lake Muskoka. Some of the 90's versions had the DL bottom . I think Randy at Islington Marine made that switch. We run a Mercury 150 on ours. Tried several set ups with a 20 inch motor.
Best was 6 inch set back with a lift. We now have gone for noise with a 15 inch drag mid. Performance all depends on the amount of gas in the bow tank. The more weight the slower it goes, but the more weight the better it is as a ski boat. I believe the 80 speed is accurate with a light load and a good motor. Ours runs low 70s and sounds like it is running 80.

Right on this is all great news to me.

I was hoping to pick up anything between a 150 and a 200, as long as I can run mid 70's I think that would be plenty fast for me... for now
