even though it isnt turbo'd 175 hp in a 3L is impressive for a non turbo diesel. i want to know torque numbers... my guess is there not very impressive considering the low compression non turbo platform.
i find the whole thing very cool. how ever if mercury had to turbo one of these the weight would increase greatly i would guess... no just from a turbo.. i have a feeling it wont go much further.
now one single 6.6 Duramax with about 800 hp and a two speed transmission in a tuff 28 would be interesting...
It's just an opti that runs on diesel...which is cool for the engineering but there's no power advantage torque or otherwise. It still turns 6k which is cool but it exists only because the military doesn't like how gas explodes when it gets shot at (or when they crash there ships which appears to the actual reason for the mandate) lol.
There's a dmax or maybe its a cummins in a Baja with a 2-speed on Havasu (I guess there could be lots for all I know lol). One of the big diesel tuner shops built it for themselves...not remarkably fast...but...incredible mileage. Again, impressive engineering but with the 2-speed you've got a HUGE weight penalty...we won't even get into the cost difference but I think you'd be doing it because you could not because you're looking to save gas money lol.
If we're turboing outboards...you know I wouldn't be starting with the diesel opti lol.
The numbers:
