So here is the full update on the boat progress. Everything has been built, painted, and the rigging has started. The 2.0L may have found some steroids this winter as well...
After the core was laid in with core bond went over the whole floor with a layer of 1.5oz chopped matte followed by a layer of 12oz biaxial. The transom was put in with 2 laminated layers of 3/4" marine grade plywood (like an okume) and 2 stringers were glassed in of the same wood down the pad all of which was laid up the same way as the core with 1.5 oz and then 12 oz.
Then after staring at the stock 15's I decided I wanted to do something totally different. Thanks to Top gun, got a hold of an STV river rocket faring which I cut and modified and shaped to fit the profile of the boat. You can see in this photo the templates I had to make to profile the sides of the boat to match the shape and outlines of the faring to make it look proper and appropriate. The sides were then blended and fibreglassed on using 1/4" plywood so its also structurally sound.
After that I put the floor in, glass it into the sides and added large knees in the back. You can see the knees in a later picture. after all this was done I flipped the boat and started on the bottom. Straightened and sharpened the lifting strakes, trued up the pad, and due to some recommendations added a lip. I'm still skeptical, but I figured its always easy to sand it off, much harder to add it in later. Also had to fill all the holes in the transom and blend the transom to match all the bottom with nice corners.
And then some pictures of the finished painted boat. Big props to my dad for the help with the prep work to paint the boat. I'm pretty good with a lot of stuff but painting is definitely becoming one of his strong suits. The boat turned out great and shows really well.
On this photo you can see the knees. Hard to see but they are quite large. Lots of power going on the back, wanted to make sure the transom is good and strong.
And finally...the floor has been painted, the steering has been drilled and installed for the cable pulleys, and the gauges have been installed.
