I have my STV's on hold due to lack of heated space large enough. I have a deck and finished hull but haven't popped them out of the molds yet, probably summer time thing if I don't end up buying another house this year, and I will have some time to work on them.

This boat was Ryan Carson's boat he had for sale which I bought seeing it would be a straight forward job to rebuild, and it will be a good home for my 2.5 engine to run around this summer.



The boat arrived some what like you see it,
I will be rebuilding it with balsa core in the floor and Nidacore stringers and marine ply transom with Nidacore laminated between them.
trying to keep it light as possible even tho it is a heavy boat.

I have removed the rest of the rotten core ( other then the a 2 foot section at the bow on the deck which I will take care of one the stringers and transom are in)
The hull only had thee couple areas of rot, I checked most everywhere else and it all dry.
I will be laying the rest of the core tonight with corebond B72 which is a mixture of ester resin and a "filler" type which will bond the core and fill air gaps and add strength to the lamination.




also cut up my nidacore for stringer, while I was waiting for the shop to heat up.

looking like a good project. looking forward to the process. should make the pad wider while your at it.

Looking good! Glad it only had a few rotten spots as had thought. Will be a nice driver when finished! Cant wait for it to actually see the water again

James, I probably will make a wider pad on it. I will be flipping it over to take care of spraying the hull in some VC epoxy performance from interlux.
I installed all of the core that needs to go into the hull, and weighed it down with 3 bags of feed. iT conforms to the curve very well!



I started to fill the compass hole in the deck.
I removed the balsa core 1 inch between the deck and fiberglass lamination and worked in a piece of new balsa core, then bonded it into place. Tomorrow I will be glassing the hole in and fairing it into the deck.

Been working hard on the boat this week after work, getting really excited to get this in the water soon.
I filled in the compass hole with three layers of 17 Oz and epoxy, Electric scissors work amazing, and i have a carbide blade set for carbon fiber which is even sweeter.



I cut a template for the transom as well and got three layers all epoxied together. 1/2 inch Baltic birch with core in the middle.

I installed the transom last night, it went very well, resin primed surface with core-bond, I have to make a trip down to Composites to get more core-bond and a bit of carbon fiber, which i will use to give more strength to the transom and knee joints.

Whats the carbon fiber worth? I might do the same with the checkmate, probly going to see some sort of abuse lol
