Seeing those pictures of the early 1990’s EP boats ....makes you wonder about the 50D model 50 hp Nissan/Tohatsu

But it was competitive with most of the other entries. It was a low 60 mph boat on the straightaway. Impressive for a 14 footer 50 hp 43 cubic inch outboard with a boat motor and driver weight at approximately 800 lbs!
Today that boat combo would not be a T850....it would be a T750.
The minimum weight for T750 is 594 lbs.
What if??....that motor raced in T750 at 594 lbs.
I think the answer is in the Current UIM kilo record book.....66 mph.
At 2:48-2:51 on this video you see the record making boat....it’s a manual start 50D on a GT30 winrace hull no rear cowl and the strong box extended to make the boat longer....
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2QBu29PJkMThe 50D version of the 50 hp seems to respond better to engine blueprinting than the later versions. That could be due to them being the first castings and the block flows better.
We did have one 50 tohatsu race in T750... it was not a 50D......it was a later version off a pontoon boat... untouched...yet it ran pretty competitive initially when the top boats ran 60 mph. It was a 56-57 mph boat on the race course.
