Most on this site would not remember the larger 15-16 foot Shooting Star
https://www.screamandfly.com/showthread ... 500-XS-SSMAnd I am likely the only one that remembers the 13 foot model because I ordered one in 1965 and it was never shipped. I ended up ordering a V-16 Checkmate in 1966.
https://boats-from-usa.com/sites/defaul ... 630332.jpgThe Shooting star model was a flat bottom tunnel. Switzer Craft also had the same deck on a V hull called the Playboy. The picture above says the boat is a Shooting Star. I believe it is NOT.....it is a Playboy model.
The performance selling point for the mid 1960's 13 foot V hulls like Checkmate and Allison was those hulls could run 50 mph with a 50 hp motor. The larger Switzer Shooting Star was by far the fastest straight line boat on calm water with an 89 to 99 cubic inch motor.
Switzer Craft testing had their 13 foot Shooting Star a over 55 mph with a stock 50 hp 44 cubic inch Mercury......that was the reason I ordered one.
I would like to heard from someone who got a 13 foot Shooting Star and learn how it performed?
I have always wondered how that 13 footer would run today with modern motors and better props.
