I've always heard they aren't as stable as the Critchfields at higher speeds and don't corner as well. Blowover easier etc. What kind of info can you give me on the Delta and is there any bottom mods that can be done to improve how it handles?

Easiest solution is to buy a Critchy....the delta is probably just as stable but it definitely has more natural bow lift. The Critchy has the turn down chine that settles the boat down level and helps it turn better than most. Coulter says the little Alliston turns pretty hard too.

I loved my Delta (Pauls)..It was a lot of fun to drive.

On the race course the Delta was designed as a 62 to 65 mph boat, 75 hp no setback. Some racers like Steve Huff could run the boat flat and that helped him turn.
Most Deltas now are running larger motors, the boat is way over powered and the extra speed is too much for the hull.
It will be interesting to see how the NEW composite, lighter than before, Deltas run with 40 to 60 hp motors. The current negative aspect of bow lift will become a positive as will its wider than an Allison pad.

My Delta runs at 68 MPH and yes it doesn't need that kind of speed to stand it on the transom. My last close call was two years ago and I was just putting around at 60 when all of the sudden I was staring at the sky. I completely got off the gas but the boat didn't come down till I was down to maybe 25 MPH. Every time this has happened, the boat stayed straight and I never got wet.

If you are finding your Delta runs light in the nose, try putting a 25 pound sand bag or you can use a bag of winter salt in the nose. Then when you get out of shape and back off the throttle, the nose will come down. The extra weight in the nose works well with a chopper prop.

Rather than add weight in nose, which will reduce acceleration, put a slight lip on the pad. We suggested that to one of our T-750 racers, and he loved it.

Thanks guys. Thom, I've heard you talking about a lip on the back of the pad before. Would that be about 1/8" at the back tapered over about 2 inches or?
