When you have this list it is easy to categorize the various motors into groups.

A bone stock USED motor......nothing done to it.
THE TOTAL WEIGHT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN TOP SPEED AND A BIG DIFFERENCE IN LAP TIME.
THE CLOSER YOU ARE TO THE CLASS MINIMUM WEIGHT THE QUICKER THE BOAT CAN BE.

T750
60 hp OMC, 55 hp Yamaha, 50 hp Yamaha, 50 hp Tohatsu will ALL run 52 to 57 mph depending on the boat weight and set up.
The Chrysler is said to be 1 mile an hour faster......However the 60 hp 4 stroke Mercury is still the fastest mph wise.....
In the races so far the race prep OMC is leading. But none of the other brands raced so far have been actually RACE SPEC motors.
Matt has been closing the gap with his yamaha.....many of us think that 55 hp yamaha will get even more competitive. Paul is just waiting for everyone to peak out and then show up with his Chrysler.

T850
BONE STOCK
Formula E, 59 cubic inch Mercury, 70 yamaha short shaft.....all will run 62 to 65 mph
Stinger, yamaha 70CES will run 64 to 69 mph

STOCK ALTERED.....only the head changed
Fishing 56 OMC.........66 to 70 mph
160 SST60................67 to 71 mph

PURE SST60..........72 to 74 mph with SST60 foot......73 to 75 mph with nitro foot

MOD 56...............74 to 80 mph

STRAIGHT LINE SPEED
The VooDoo has showing to be 1 to 1.5 mph faster in T850 with the same motor.

DYNO RESULTS.....actually results
AT THE CRANK
- pure SST60......105 hp
- pure SST60......98 hp
- pure SST60.......93 hp
- 50 hp Tohatsu....59 hp
- SST45 OMC.......65 to 69 hp
AT THE PROP
- 70CES...........70 hp
- Stinger..........77 hp

60DES....79 MPH.......and 5 years after the motor was discontinued.......if we could only find those UIM spec sheets...
Knowing Matt he is searching online for them.

That 1986 60DES record looks like it was on a tunnel (S750), not a v-bottom T-boat..
For SST45 I found 74/75mph, and for F4 EPA (Merc 60hp), I found 79/81mph as records.

Not sure what the engine homologation specs/rules are like for UIM for those above records..
Lacking some details, so I'm making some assumptions here, but it looks like those 3 motors are all in the same ballpark.

Wow! Merc 60 4-stroke doing 79/81 mph.

My how things have changed since we were running SE class in the late 70's.
My Seebold/Merc 650XS on a good day would maybe go 75mph, the kilo record (that may still be in effect) was set in 1976 I think by John Sherlock at 77 + mph.

Is it the boats? the motors? or both ??

Mostly it is the tunnel boats.....1977 SE record was 77 mph.........FE same motor V hull....68 mph
1980's SE OMC over 90 MPH........EP same motor V hull......70 mph
F4 Merc 60 4 stroke allows sponson water pick ups so on a kilo run where you don't need to worry about turning they run big props with the motor jacked basically with the skeg in the water.

I got the F4 (Merc 60) numbers from here. I'd assume it is a tunnel.

Matt, with all your web searching and testing with both the 55 hp twin yamaha and the 70 hp triple yamaha maybe you can explain this S850 ......70CES world record.

When you ran the stock 55 and the 70 on your VooDoo there was not much difference in top speed.
The 60DEC twin and the 70CES triple are the sport models.
We know they both had a stainless tuner.
The second version 70CES had the 1 piece cylinder head.
They both share the same 1:71 gear case
They both are in S class and share the same basic rules with the 60DES having the lighter weight.
You found the kilo record for the 60DES....79 mph
Based on the OMC SE record of low 90's for the kilo and the 60DES...79 mph....you would think the kilo record for the S850 would be 90 ish.
Look at the British record in your post.......89 mph.......DEAD ON.
Now look at the World Record below it.......101 mph
BOTH BOATS RAN WITH THE SAME RULES.
Its that 101 mph that started all the FAKE NEWS about the yamaha's 70CES performance.

It is hard to believe that 101mph is official. I found a short article from 1990 (2 years before the 101mph record) that says the Wold Champ S850 Yamaha accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in under 8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 150km/h (93mph). Those folks in Norway know how to get some good performance out of that motor.
