I have two suggestions:

1. My point was 15' boat cant hold as much weight as a 20' boat, sitting still or under way, the laws of physics wont allow it, so maybe a new rule should be implied... a minimum length boat. ODBA has that rule, not sure about DSRA, this would keep this issue from arising again.

2. Stick to women your own age. :o

Having been involved at various levels over the last thirty years in car drag racing/oval racing, snowmobile drag racing/cross country/radar runs/oval racing, boat racing of various forms/poker runs etc, it always comes down to the same shit. Everybody's ego ALWAYS gets in the way, the same few people make/break/bend the rules, the rule makers bitch, the rule followers bitch, the cheaters bitch, and eventually there is so few people interested it dies off. The "official" type racers scoff at the "Sandbar/parking lot/radar track" type and vice versa, everybody's dick and/or wallet comes out to see who has the fattest, fucking testosterone at it's best. Been there/done that, thanks. Sometimes it's all in good fun amongst buddies, but mostly it just turns into a big pissing contest. This isn't the Southern U.S., there is only so many boats and guys interested to go around in the tiny niche market that is boat racing in Ontari-ari-ario. Everybody needs to cut everybody, on both sides of the fence, a little fucking slack and let common sense prevail or it will easily set what the few hard-core guys have achieved back ten+ years, and where was Outboard drag racing than??

Not sure the reason for your (2)

As for (1) - I think you may be mislead about this conversation or what the weekend consisted of. The minimum length rule was removed with Mike's boat in mind as I believe it was set at 15 or 16' in length previous years ???? Not sure . No one even asked Mike to put a single lb of weight in his boat for Gravenhurst although it was suggested that he could run full of fuel (he designed the boat with that tank in it so why not) . Not once not ever. At least not when I was around. It was mentioned by a few that maybe he should run a larger pitch prop to compensate for the extremely low weight he was at when we weighed him 1060lbs possibly I don't remember.
Also keep in mind that Mike was aware he was an "experiment" for any class it was decided he would run in. He was originally slated to run in our FORMULA class but he decided on a different powerhead I guess.
No one here said he should put 500lbs of weight in his boat or else ...... That is what this discussion is about.

The simple facts are this and have always been this.
There have been a set of rules posted. Those set of rules have a small few that voted and those small few all voted in favour. Not one vote is against the rules as of 5min ago.

We have always tried to fit Mike and his Allison in to some class and did so. Mike and I discussed this experiment many times and it was never a yes or a no. It was a "let's see how it goes".

We have to have some set of guidelines and to be honest the rules we do have are so small it's a joke. . . 12" miss allowed. Allison RR's allowed. Any engine mods besides true Drag/S3000 powerheads limited to 150lbs of compression. Any gasoline allowed.
And a simple well known 1550lbs min because we have some heavyweight boats that have decided to be regulars and made their voice heard so it is 1550. . . 10lbs heavier than the 260 std drag type weights out there.

Let's try and see what we can do to make this work as its great to have the boats but not at the cost of the work that's been done to date.

Pat's idea seems on the right track and it's a good one. I'd only recalculate based on the average lengths of the boats from Gravenhurst excluding Mike's (17'8" to 19'7)

Boomer is a different case all together. There are rules and that should really be just that. He was right there to begin with and had a great showing.

All right.....here goes,
After reading the last 4 pages....again...there's a few things I need to be get off my chest. None of these comments are intended to upset, criticise, vilify or show disrespect to anyone and if I've misunderstood or misread something in the preceding, oops....sorry, get over it.
WE DON'T HAVE THE LUXURY OF DISCOURAGING ANYONE!!
If we need to adjust rules to suit some boats then that's what needs to be done.
Allstock was bang on 2 or 3 posts back, P@ as well.
Boomer, your boat runs great and you can drive it! Toss in another battery for 24v trim. Ad a bit of weight if you need to (placed where you want / need it) and call it good. Dean made huge improvements with a bit of squeeze, you can do likewise. I'm sure you can find a set of tighter heads kicking around somewhere.
Mikes 15r has the potential to kick some serious ass, once dialled in and tuned and that's going to take some time. In the interim, he should run at every event possible and as he improves we can figure out the most practical way to keep things competitive. P@'s weight per foot idea makes a lot of sense and strategic placement of additional weight in that boat may make it both faster & safer, only because it won't be like driving a rocket powered potato chip.
We need to work at getting more people to show up and race!
I'm sure I'll have more to say after I've had a nap. /;-)

I appreciate being given the chance to participate and be an "experiment" to the class. I did what was asked of me and had a full 12 gallons of gas and ran the boat as per discussed to see how it would perform. At the end of the day it fit right in with the class (IMO at least), it was competitive and finished middle of the pack. I am fully aware that my boat didn't perform to its complete capabilities but I was hoping that bridge would be crossed if/when the boat became to competitive. At that point it can be looked at what to do, either adding some weight or upping the pitch of the prop as per previously discussed.

Kevi hit the nail on the head with my intentions for racing. For some it may be seen as pure bread racing, and for others its just an opportunity to race against friends to see how one boat stacks up against another in something other than just running around the lake. I'm on the latter and I don't care about the points. At the end of the day we're not in it to win money or a trophy because there isn't one.

I don't want to be an exemption to the rule, and as per the rules my boat doesn't fit, and that's fine. If we need numbers I am more than happy to bring my boat and participate but if its going to cause unrest in the community its not worth it to me.

Even if that means I just have to go out during intermission with the sleds that run on water...

I hope Mike does come out to race and always said that.
Power to Weight ratio is what every multi engine type class racing is and has always been about achieving. Cars , boats , sleds and bikes all have it. A Power to Length is a possible starting point for sure.

My biggest thing I guess is both sides of the coin and I'm not partial to any ...... ranging from a completely odd combination that no OB drag boat organization would have a class for , all the way to our regular and heavier boats.

Hope to see all boats race and it's always been a goal to have things set to have a different winner each day of each race. :)

You're coming to race in Haliburton .... Period.

Let's just find a fit. No unrest at all. Conversation and debate is how things get done.

I am contemplating on commenting on this subject but I need a question answered first.
Are the two events (and I am only talking about the drags) that are held in our area registered as a points race with any sanctioning body?

I don't believe the CBF really recognizes Drags. They used to. But I'm not involved enough to know for sure to give an accurate answer.

I know I keep track of our own points for us.
