Maybe this is too agressive but what about taking the deck off to gut and then recore up into the sponsons? Again if there is core up there. I have never taken the deck off a boat so it might be more trouble then it is worth.

i think its harder on some than others,, i had the deck off my baja and it was no big deal,, just alott of rivets.

,, i still need to go see doK about a mid, and i want to pull the heads off and have a look inside, i think it needs a head gasket anyway, ..,,., if i can get it wet this summer id be stoked, and consider a mild port job on the excel for next year. :lol:

Hi Boomer,

I was also looking at this boat and talked to Al Stoker about it. His thoughts are its a Baker or Talyor that has some deck modification done. If thats the case you'l probably find the only Balsa Core is on top of the tunnels and if it has not been drilled through will be OK. They typically used Hardwood as stiffeners on the running surfaces to reduce weight (less epoxy absorbed).

These hulls typically have solid stringers on the inside of the tunnels and sometimes on the outside.

If your fortunate, I suspect you'll find aside from some cleaning out and filling, the transom and deck will be the majority of you work.

I may be wrong as I have not seen the boat in person, but if its a Baker or Taylor they hold up pretty well unless they've been drilled through.
