From time to time I get e-mails from people who think our race course ovals are too long and we need to shorten them to put the race more infront of the fans as they do in APR Superleague. I finally have facts so I am doing this thread.

I am going to compare our courses to APR Superleague and F3 [SST 60]. The main reason for doing it now. APR just posted their Pittsburgh results and for the first time they are showing the time and a realistic speed. We were racing in APR when the gradually shortened the courses from 50 seconds to 30 - 35 second laps.

http://www.aprsuperleague.com/FormulaTh ... elease.pdf

So here you go....looking at the link above
9 boats
33 second laps
speeds from 51.9 mph to 63.6 mph
As a fan..Do you think that is a show?
As a racer..What do you think?

So in my opinion. Let's not go there.
WHAT DO YOU THINK!

That speed must be average? Or are they really that slow?

Waterford is about .68 mile tri-oval.

Andrew, that is average speed and it is their fastest lap average speed. The top boat generally sets the fastest speed on the first lap when it has all the good water. YES they are that slow and there is a big difference in performance between the top few boats, the middle group and the followers.

Another disadvantage to the short-short course is set up. On the short-short courses it is all about acceleration pin to pin.
On the longer courses you can select a prop to suit your start position on the dock. The farther back you are on the start dock will change your prop selection. Short-short courses also cause wrecks and very rough water resulting is more damage and repairs.

When were ran both SST 60 and FV with the T boat yamaha combo. We would test both boats on the same course. The FV was faster on the short-short course compared to the SST 60. And our SST 60 was one of the top SST 60's in APR.

A 60 mph average is really hauling the mail!

Andrew, the record on a 1 mile course for an SST 60 is over 69 mph average and the kilo record is 96 mph.
So there is a lot of speed in those boats. The short-short courses do not allow you to demonstrate the true capability of the class.

Funny, we've been trying to make our courses bigger so guys can stretch their legs a bit.
