Superior is an amazing body of water. I had the good fortune of being a summer student on a oil freighter in the 70's. One of my most memorable "moments of amazement" was on Lake Superior. We had left a northern most point of the lake early one evening, think it was Wawa. My shift ended at 4:00 AM, I came up from below deck to absolute blackness. The sky was clear and full of stars, and Superior being so clear and black the dead calm water reflected the stars perfectly, I couldn't tell where the sky stopped and the lake began. It was as though we were suspended sailing through the stars, like in a Sci Fi movie except it was real... I was awe struck. Truly memorable! |

I was born in Thunder Bay, lived there till I was 8, go back every once in a while. Can't say I have too many memories at this point, but the drive around Superior should be done at least once in your lifetime, amazing scenery! |
