I was surprised how well he did with that video! There is a ton of car content on youtube, so its nice to see someone take a stab at boats. Sounds like he's going to do great things to help promote our sport. Where can I get one of those T-Shirts! |

New video https://youtu.be/aQSs_YAWn6o?si=oRKBRv5lVcYK94SH Here is the link for all the videos https://www.youtube.com/@Gordonracing412/videos Here is the link for the gear sets https://gearprosinc.com/shop/ols/products/sst60-3 Here are the part numbers for the gear sets GP-SST60-178 (14:25 - 1.78:1 ratio) GP-SST60-186 (14:26 - 1.86:1 ratio) equivalent to the O.E. ratio GP-SST60-193 (14:27 - 1.93:1 ratio) When these new ratios first appeared on the market there was interest in the T750 OMC group. Their nitro cases also have the high 2.4 ratio. You can compensate for a high ratio gearcase by running a larger pitch prop. You will see most racing T750 running 23 and 24 pitch . The T750 Yamaha has 1:8 and 1:7 ratios, the tohatsu 1:8 and the mercury 2:0, 1:8 & 1.6. Those motors all run smaller pitches and smaller diameters compared to the T750 OMC. I know of two individuals who purchased the 1.93 gear set to try. Years ago several racers running 650XS motors used either a 1.8 or 1.6 gearcase depending on the race course setup. The distance from the starting dock to the first pin and your position on the starting dock and the competition were factors to consider. If you were first second or third on the dock you ran 1.8. That ratio gave you the best option to get the lead. If you were 4 to 9th on the starting dock you ran 1.6 because you wouldn’t be leading, you needed the extra top speed to catch and pass. Most T races now are clock start so the 1.9 ratio could make for faster lap times. In T850 the 1:78 ratio (my opinion) will make a top end speed advantage on a top running T850 but, it may not be notable on the race course. The boat will require a longer time to max out so the course straightaway will be too short. On a long lake run it should be 2-3 mph faster. |
