Hi guy's
I am now wanting to build a new seat base/box for my boat, mine is an open boat so its going to be a big box type thing that goes
all across the boat about half way along. (see pics)
I will be using fibreglass once I have a plug made up, BUT here is what I am not sure about.

How thick will the box need to be ? do I need to make it 1/8th inch thick or 1/4 inch etc ?

the box will be around 50 inch wide by 14 inch deep by around 15 inches high.
the top will be hinged etc just like in the pics below

I am trying to work out how thick to bild it and what could it end up weighing.
if I just go ahead and do it my way I will need an extra 200hp as I allways build stuff far too heavy.
I have a fair bit of glass cloth lying around to get this done, and will make a good winter project.
I cannot afford carbon fibre or exotic stuff so its just going to be polyester resin and csm.

any idea's on the lay of this type of thing will be good,

Maybe give it more than just a few hours for people to chime in, you're in the middle of a work day here lol
... I'm sure there's a few guys who have an answer for ya, but not me. My Allison style buckets are pretty thin, but the shape is where the strength is. I'd think a box like that will probably need to be substantially thicker

Yeah sorry about that
I was forgetting the time difference between the united kingdom and Canada.
Obviously I will wait for a few people that know about this type of thing. or I will bugger up my project.

did I tell you guys I make lots of stuff from wood,
I start off with great plans and the final result is my projects normally make great firewood
I have even mastered how to make real good metal swarf on the drill press too.
