One day in 2002 there was a pack of 7 t-class like boats ripping down the lake together. As they drove into one of the bays at the north end (Crooked Bay) a delta took a wrong turn and ended up being t-boned by another boat. By the time the driver was at the surface the boat was already gone. Matt Riddy, owner of the boat, had a diver(s) go down to search for the Delta but nothing was ever found. Last weekend Angelo Nicastro, a fellow Six Miler, and I went to the Wyatt's cottage to pick up a prop. As we started talking the topic of this Delta came up. Soon Ang was determined to find the boat using his sonar fish finder on his bass boat. Sure enough after hours of mapping the mucky bottom of the lake he finds one single solid object. He marks it and waits for the weekend. On this past Saturday he, myself, and my father went to see if we could mark it with a buoy. We caught onto it with an anchor within minutes. We tried pulling it but it seemed extremely heavy. Being a little doubtful we sent down the GoPro to confirm that it was in fact the delta. The video showed exactly what we hoped to see. A Delta. My dad and Mack Jones tried to dive down to tie a rope on the front since it was sitting vertical but the water being 35 feet deep it was too far to reach. The next day we had a bunch of Six Milers help get a stronger rope onto it so we could pull it in. After a good 3 hours of attempts we finally got a grappling hook onto it. We pulled it all the way to shore about .6 km away. After getting it up on the dock we took off the motor and it wasnt in bad shape at all. Not seized. Not rusted. Not completely full of mud. We dont know what the inside is like yet though. Randy Wyatt is taking it apart and oiling all the parts. Thanks to everyone who helped get this thing out of the water! It was a hell of a project and a great time! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMSFKv6rmLA |

We will continue to post updates on any further information we can gather about the boat and the condition of the motor. |

As if you pull a 49 from the lake after 10 years and it's got clean bores lol....that is a heck of a find what is going to happen with it? Who does it belong to? I can't believe even the prop came out undamaged! That is a heluva way to spend a weekend boys....nice rescue. Thanks for posting it. |

What a great thread! Pretty cool find. Waaaaay better than any Titanic documentary! The prop looks minty fresh to boot! Dok - As for the salvage laws in Canada I think (I don't know though) technically you are supposed to report your find to the Ministry of Transportation. If the owner is not located within a reasonable amount of time it is yours. In this case though I think they know the owner but I don't really know... Pretty cool |
