Hey all!
My son Zach and I have purchased our first project boat ( voodoo) and are looking forward to learning on ya'll for some advice! I believe the previous owner is a member here!
Anyways, hes 12 and paid for the hull himself. I will help him with a little motor, paint the deck, touch up cockpit a bit etc.
Budget build but should be fun! Thanks in advance!
Mark

Welcome Mark, glad to see you made it over. Plenty of Voodoo owners/drivers/racers here to help out with parts and setup!

Best way to learn to drive a boat. He'll learn lots of respect for wind and cruiser wakes.....they're surprisingly hard to blow over lol.

That's awesome! Looking forward to playing around. New to boats but have a long time drag race back ground. Should be fun learning

Mark, there are many on this site that got a VooDoo in their early teens and in their later years got another VooDoo because of the fun they had with their first boat.. Your son will love the boat and he will put lots of running time on it the first few years. He will get use to driving it very quickly. I suggest you run a 40 hp motor. Anything smaller and the boat does not perform especially with more than one person in the boat. I would get a low hour used motor. He is going to use the boat a lot and you need something dependable. You are talking low budget so a 4 stroke or E-Tec motor will be too costly. I suggest a 1998 or newer 2 stroke 40 hp Mercury or Mariner. They're a nice 59 cubic inch 3 cylinder 40 hp. Their only weakness is the carrier bolts. Some lock-tight on the 2 bolts solves the problem. The Short shafts are hard to find, but a long shaft with power trim works well on the VooDoo's 24 inch transom height.
