A forest fire on McCrae lake (Next to SML) brings water bombers to Six Mile to refill.

Jeepers that is pretty wild. Stay the hell out of their way!

Did you hear how they made out in their efforts?

They were working the fire for 3.0hrs(3-6pm) 2-3km from our cottage, and many others on SML. At one point 3 Otters, cycling every 2min, and 30 secs apart. To do the circuit in 2min, it was frikkin close. MNR update today, 25ac burnt down. This was a private airshow, could see the fillings in the pilots mouth.
We were sitting on Craig Fraser's deck watching planes bank hard, drop onto lake, skim for 5-700m, pull up, clear trees by 30-50'. Another neighbour was getting soaked by the planes as they went over his deck.

You guys had an awesome view. That stuff just gives me chills watching the video. Makes you realize that there is a replacement for displacement.
Those DHC6's are so quick to get on and off the lake. The amount of ground they can cover is pretty impressive. The MNR has come along way from the old 'tip tanks' that started it all. Rumor was they started with canoes full of water...
Check out the old Algonquin Beaver making a drop. It was a smart design of the time and really lead the way to the show you guys saw.

There was a great program on the other day about a Vancouver group that retrofitted an old WW2 Martin Mars into a water bomber. These guys get multimillion dollar contracts in California and Mexico every year to fight the big stuff.
Can you imagine having this thing dump a load on your porch? lol
