Getting ready to change out the motor on my son's Voodoo to a 60hp Merc. Are you guys that run Voodoo's using any kind of jackplate to raise the motor and get a little bit of setback? Or best to just mount the motor on the transom. Thanks |

I run a small Vance plate. 3" I think was the smallest I could find. I didn't want any setback but I wanted the adjustment. |

The 3 inch jackplate should work well on a voodoo. Theres a guy running one on his 14 allison by my cottage and it works well with a v4 on it |

I have the Vance 3" plate too and it seems ok but I've never tried this motor/prop combo without the plate. Recently added negative trim wedges to the setup which moves the motor back 1" more and I'm pretty sure turning is worse now but straight line speed might be better. I wanted the adjustment too. And also since the motor is a long shaft, this Vance plate is ideal since it basically has a 3" lift in it inherently in its design (if you are running a surfacing prop). I actually trimmed a bit off the top to use the mount holes I wanted when testing a fully submerged prop setup. Still couldn't get the motor low enough in that case. |

Just from my experience and testing with my past race voodoo and lake voodoo...because of the step in the hull the jack plates hurt the performance of the boat....there was too much setback....slower out of the hole and because you're changing the fulcrum it sinks the motor and drops top speed.....just my experience hope this helps. |
