Came across something pretty cool on YouTube.
It's a 70 HP Yamaha with a built in 1 1/2" lift, the motor slides on the steering shaft.
I tried to copy the video but no success, maybe someone can help me out here.

Very interesting. Would love to see the midsection and how it works. Might be similar to the Evinrude cc, ccc or Mod 50 as they had a hydraulic lifting mechanism that allowed for vertical lift while underway that also worked off the pivot shaft. Might have to have a look at the Mod 50 parts catalogue.

Looking at this you can see 2 items that stick out past the swivel bracket just below the top and near the bottom. I would say that these may be to do with how the pivot tube goes up and down. Maybe a yoke system surrounding the pivot tube collars and a short ram. I know that the OMC CC and CCC had a pivot tube vertical lift but the CC parts book does not show anything. A OMC CCC parts listing might but if you can find a CC or CCC midsection this may lend some clues. Mercury use to have a manual pivot tube lifter that you had to wind up with a brace. I can recall that the CC use to regularly cease and had to be freed up.
Next time I see a CC I will have a good look.

LC how does the up and down work on your slOMC?? I know theres room in the clamp on that yamaha because he doesn't have trim but it's still not making sense to me.

What if he's usung a hydraulic cylinder as a pivot tube?

Pivot tube length remains constant throughout the up and down lift and the bottom of the swivel bracket has been shortened. I do not think that a hydraulic pivot tube would work as both the top and bottom are attached to the engine mounts. There has to be something attached to the pivot tube which can also pivot sideways so my guess is milling out the swivel bracket and attaching a yoke which pivots up and down on a bracket and pin attached to the swivel bracket with the other end attached to short hydraulic ram.
