Well its first race at Waterford was poor to say the least. First time we have ever had a T boat lapped since we went to the 5 lap format. Good that Thom will not be at Gravenhurst because the longer course will help the OMCs especially Jake. We had the toaster testing last weekend. When it is by itself, it doesn't appear to be that slow. We were 3 to 4 miles an hour out top speed wise at Waterford. But the killer was the boat not setting for the turns or having any speed thru the turn. We have worked on the cornering problem first. It now corners.
So that is good. It now has good acceleration out of the turn. That is good. It still doesn't have any top end.
That is likely the tired motor. We can fix that this winter. I added some noise to the motor so at least it sounds racy! At Waterford it ran so quiet you couldn't hear it running.
PS I think Fraser's going to be fighting Jake for top spot if the DOC prop works!

Craig got a prop from Kevin and hit 59 MPH. Always interesting how a prop works on one boat doesn't work on another. Always test any prop you can! You never know!

Well Mike Hooper has agreed to be the pilot of the 416 at Gravenhurst. Mike is lighter than Todd, Jim or myself, so I will disconnect the rev limiter hoping than the lighter driver will get a few more revs out of the motor. We were running close to the rev limiter with Jims last test. I put an NOS system in just in case we get lapped again.
The system is not connected to the motor but to a mask for Mike. If he does get lapped at least he can turn on the gas and have a good laugh

First off I want to thank the 3 test Pilots Todd at Waterford, Mike for Saturday at Gravenhurst and Kevin for Sunday at Gravenhurst. Not many race boats have 3 first time in the boat drivers in 6 heats of racing. You can test at the lake, but there is nothing better than the actual race to see what is going on. For those that did not see T750 run at Gravenhurst here is the learning curve. This is an extra class in T school.

First off..The motor is a tired, 100% original stock untouched 50 hp Tohatsu.

Initial set up......set up for a 200 lb driver

Waterford ...boat would not set in the turns and was 4 to 5 mph off speed wise to the TOP 2 boats. Two to 3 mph off from being competitive.....result boat got lapped in 5 laps.

Pre-Gravenhurst..Engine height adjustment and different props. Motor was getting close to the rev limiter 5800 rpm. Mike Hooper is lighter so rev limited was disconnected.

Gravenhurst Saturday with Mike driving. Boat turned well and in some cases had too much in trim which over set the boat in the turn. That caused it to slow down. Still lacked straightway top end.

One change for Sunday. Changed the timing 2 degrees.
Sunday with Kevin driving. Turns were perfect. Boat had very light set and excellent speed thru the turn. THE EXIT SPEED was faster. Result boat is now competitive. Kevin was on Jeremy's tail the complete race.
Jeremy has more top end, but the Tohatsu was faster in the turns. Plus Kevin being heavier did not hurt the performance.

It will be even better at Dunnville!

It looked really good out there! I liked the comment about how it must be running better now because it just turned 5000 hrs! Lol :D

Now about Craig's Allison... talk amongst yourselves... :|

We should have some video of Craig and Jake, Craig and Jeremy racing. Craig is winning with ease it appears, but the video shows differently. Top speed wise Jake is faster and in another video Craig is racing Jeremy and he is not faster on the straights. Where he is much quicker is thru the corner. That is where he makes the most gain. It is all about exit speed out of the corner. Craig is likely 3 to 4 mph faster coming out of the turn. That means he reaches his top speed quicker, so it appears that he has more top end. The fact is, the fastest boat is Todd's OMC Allison, your old boat. The Quickest is Craig's.
