Hey Rick, how much hassle would it be to convert a 25" to a 20"? parts in stock? what year Excell is it? I've heard some of those Yamaha fishing motors run pretty good.

I've got a mid but you'd need a drive shaft and shift shaft...

To run a 25" you'll have to jack it way up..then you'll have a weird center of balance..

I would'nt run the 25" as Rick says you will not be able to get the propshaft high enough either, to make it run well up top.

haha i just bought the same motor 89 excel 25" im would like to do the same too mine and make it a 20" ,,,my first thought was too add 5" too my transom,, i kind of wish i went that way the 20" transom on my sidewinder sits really low with a 2.6l hanging 4"back..and my power head sits really close too the water an extra 5" would be nice too keep er high and dry....live and learn too late too turn back now.. :? i only have 2" of transom out of the water when im parked :o

You're going to want to keep the 20" on that 'winder. Raising the PH 5" will make that boat even harder to drive....like next to impossible. Get some pictures of that thing up in readers' rides...

oops its in general forum have a look.. the motor came with a 25" shaft,,,im thinking if i added 5" to the transom even if i swtched to a 20" shaft and mounted my jack 5" down it would help keep water out of the boat,,any wave and i take on water if im parked...but that would require me too restart my project. so it is, what it is..
