Taken from the other thread:
The yamaha oil injection is the best in the business...the only caution is that the excels are getting old...so...the oil lines are getting brittle and the check valves are getting sticky...and...the pump is getting old. It might be a good idea to check out the oiling system and make sure there's nothing glaring.

I run oil injection on all my yamaha's...it's one of the advantages of owning a better outboard/pwc/sled....

Not to mention being more expensive to run pre-mix plus the added pain in the ass. Main reason I've left mine hooked up.

The only old motor that blew up in our family was my brother's oil injected till it failed Yamaha Waverunner. My 1990 XR4 still has oil injection, as does my brother's 1989 200 Johnny.

For years my theory was I trusted the oil injection more than my extended family's oil mixing abilities. Now we have the Etec on the Baja, so I could remove the oil injection from my Merc. No one else uses my SS2000 now.

my thoughts! if you run your boat at idle more than 20 minutes at a time, your better off with oil injection! if you dump it in the water and flog the shit out of it your better with premix tailored to your rpm!

I have heard of that...Yamaha sells a kit to update the pump mount on the block as well.

And as a wise man once told me that pre mixing is cool until you are filling up at the gas docks and you ask the ladies you are with to hold your drippy oily measuring bottle / half full oil bottle while you fill it up! Then, not so cool....
