From Ron's Site

QUOTE:
The short shaft Mercury 60 is a good engine, I have one on my F4 boat. You get good props for it from Dewald, Mercury, Ron Hill, And LAK-propellers in Estonia. Otherwise same props as on Yamaha CES, older Mercs, Short shaft johnsons/Evinruder suits the engine.
It has the "same" gearcase as the most 40-75 hp short shaft engines, in Yamaha terms, the G-shaft.

I think the midsection on the short 60 is the same as on the short 40hp, with the 60 hp(obviously) power unit and gearcase.

the "no Warranty" thing has to do with the fact that it is sold by mercury racing in first hand as an racing outboard and thereby it doesn't have warranty.

I have driven with my now about 1000 hours and it's still as new, even if i have had it for racing. correct me if I'm wrong.

I think it would be a good alternative to the old 2-strokes, not that much heavier, and quite mintenance-free. AND MODERN TECHNOLOGY

I'm no where near 1000 hours but so far so good, and nice to read a positive review.
Also, I know noise at races is great but running it quietly at the cottage has a lot of value in terms of my neighbour relations.

This sounds all good but I love the sound and smell of 2 strokes.
Maybe when I get older, maybe.

I am still impressed by Toms performance at Gravenhurst last year with the 4 stroke a good start the right prop for the course and he almost won!!

Aside from being a 15 inch mid, the only difference between the 20 inch model and it are the solid motor mounts. You could change the lower mounts without too much problem on the 20 inch, but the originals are OK as is on a T boat. The older model VooDoo with the 24 inch transom would be a good choice. The red and Yellow VooDoo with centre steer for sale on this site would be an excellent T750 combo. Used "GREEN" motors like the 60 Mercury and the 60 E-TEC are showing up for sale. Being long shaft models the fit is suited with the old VooDoo hulls. The 60 E-TEC is hurt because of the large lower unit, but, the extra displacement of the motor and torque make up for it. Waterford is a tough track for the 4 stroke Mercury. Waterford would be a good track for the E-TEC.

The 60 4-stroke in the ad is not the same as the F4...the 2005 version is actually a Yamaha.

With regard to the e-tec...I drove one at Waterford. I'd stick with the F4 ;)

The pictures of that 60 Mercury are so dark it is difficult to see the mid and lower unit.
THIS ONE looks like a China Mercury.
