Blow out ring ? in the parts for sale I noticed there is a sst60 gearbox, prop and blowout ring !!!! I have heard of these before but never seen one or know what it does or how it fits. Could someone please give me info on these and do they actually work to help stop blowout on holeshot or just top end . pics would be good too. cheers |

It a ring that attaches to the gear case trailing edge usually with set screws which effectively lengthens the case. Only useful at higher speeds when "blowout" or loss of propeller bite occurs once past design capability of lower unit. The variables are endless but we're usually referring to speed in excess of 80 Mph. |

Cheers Tomcat But what is the ones for over hub cleaver props and how do they fit ? I tried Google and that came up with some very strange stuff, but nothing about the blow out rings for cleaver props. the advert for the sst60 gearbox shows something that to me looks like it goes over the blades !!!! I am probably seeing this ass about face and getting wrong impression. ive heard /read of people using blow out rings to get better holeshot ? or is this wrong. I read somewhere this morning about a blowout ring being used with an SRX !!! again these are over hub props. I saw a bit about rings being attached to smaller hub props to make them like a large hub, yeah that I totally get. need to get a better pic of the ring advertised with the prop. I just wondered if it would help me get on plane with a SRX instead of the 1/4 mile it takes now. . |

Blowout rings are gear case specific and won't help your planing problem Here's a pic… http://www.screamandfly.com/showthread. ... =blow+ring Can't think of anything that actually attaches to a prop and wouldn't want one. Some props have adjustable vent holes in the hub but that's not what you're referring to. Sound to me like you're spinning too much prop and can't get it to bite, a planing issue. Have a look at Smart Tabs here… http://www.nauticusinc.com |
