1st off, this weekend i over heated our 1976 searay..... at about 9:30pm in the big sound for those who know the area...

anyway. took the lower off to check the impeller and it was fine but found that the little plastic hose that plugs into the impeller housing is melted.... i replaced that and put the lower back on and started it...... still not getting water to the water pump on the motor...

so i guess my question is whats in between the impeller housing and the water hose that plugs onto the water pump? and has anyone had this issue before..

Rick- if your shooting that shit with your techs see if they have some ideas... we both know how much salesman actually work...

Probably a bad waterhose through the transom...no water to the motor and the exhaust melts the water pump tube...

Car engines should be kept in the car fyi...:)

I went and talked to the techs....he gave me a list as long as your arm of potential issue but the cause is the same. The melted parts are a result of no water coming out of the motor. Which could be anything from the waterpump base/gaskets, to plugged manifolds to a bad T-stat....you just need to follow the water path.

Hmmm....1976 i/o? When was it last flushed?
The list of issues, as stated by the Dok, is long but simple.
Follow the flow. A real common issue is the hose in the gimble area. Mice really like them.
Disconnect the hose from the inside of the transom and hook the garden hose to it, feeding the engine.
If that works, you have eliminated the engine side.

interesting..... i took the hose that feeds the water pump from the impeller and started the motor and no water comes out so that rules out the motor side i would think.

so i will check that #7 and check the line going through the transom....

if you got the exhaust that hot to melt the upper pump area, you better have a close look at your rubber exhaust hoses off the manifolds, they are likely cooked or close to failure!
if you tried it on the hose and got no water ,theres definately something blocking the water passages, I THOUGHT THAT VINTAGE DRIVE HAS AN ALUMINIUM BLOCK FOR THE PIECE #7 NOT LIKE THE NEW PLASTICRAP!
