One of my winter projects is to install hydraulic steering damping on the Thunder Cats.
Torque steer on a 60 Hp tiller is huge when running a cleaver. Makes for a short day and sore arm.
Damping is just one part of the solution. Will install an adjustable bungee system on one side to counter-act the steady pull.

In an ideal world I'd install a Seastar steering ram with check valve plumbed between the two sides on both Cats, a bit expensive.
I've seen rams installed off the starboard side of stock steering tube then connected in standard fashion to steering link. This looks like a more generic approach and possibly more affordable.
Anyone have any thoughts about suppliers who have or could fabricate what I'm looking for?

Tom,
I have a used one. It is at Todd's HCD shop n Newmarket. Feel free to pick it up and if you want it, it is worth a couple beers. It will only act as a damper and will not counter torque unless you close the valve completely to lock the steering travel. For the typical damper, the popular one is the Mercedes e200 steering stabilizer. Need to fabricate the mounting bracket (i used 6061 1/4 aluminum, jigsaw, belt sander and drill, use cardboard to make the template). per attached picture. To tame the torque, the best setup is to use block and tackle and 1/2" bungee.

Thanks Steve,
I'm aware of the Mercedes damper but they do limit steering angle.
Thanks for the offer, will pick that up when I see Todd. Be good with the T750 motor.
Was thinking I'd adapt a longer stroke (8") ram on the Aquarius mounted in front or to the side for daily lake running
Your bungee set up is nice.
What diameter and tension rating cords you using?

Thanks Steve, that makes sense.
What are you using to lock down the bungee, locking pulley or separate fixture?

Hey Tom, Rowboat might be able to build you up something.

I have considered that possibility. If nothing pre-manufactured presents itself, I'll pick up a ram and steering link then consult Rowboat about mounting options.
