What the benefical factor of having dual props on a outboard or on a stern drive?

effenciancy, better performance and milage I would think. My neighbour has a 5.7 23' larson cuddy with the dual prop setup and thru hull exhaust and it comes out of the water pretty good.

Mercury showed and tested this V6 dual prop prototype,
but found it too costly to produce
it had a 2 speed lower unit 8-)
