Had a bit of an issue last year when a front seat passenger ended up in the rear seat, exposing a rotten floor. Decided to start tearing it up and see how far the rot goes...

Boomer dropped by to help with one of his should-be-patented 5 minute engine stands and a few grinders....

All the black you see on the core/hull is mildew, it cleans up to a bright green, thick layer of glass over what little core there actually is in this boat. Thinking about going centre steer, seating bulkheads instead of a floor, and a removable rear seat with race hatch option. Wide open to opinions, this is the first time doing anything like this for me...

The stringers and floor were done in 3/8" 3 ply. The floor wasn't bonded underneath to the stringers or floor, when we cut through the top layer the floor just lifted off. Stringers weren't end sealed, triangle shaped piece in front spanned the whole boat with no support, was completely dry bare ply on the underside. No wonder everything is still wet....

My Valero's stringers didn't appear to be sealed either, got it without a floor. The fronts of mine were left open and the tips weren't sealed well. I'm going to add a pedestal across the entire seating area and hopefully make it a centre steer with the option of going side steer if need be.

Boomer is a good friend lol...anyone who volunteers to grind AND brings his own grinder is tops in my books!

I would be inclined to drill a few test holes in the core...especially if there's not much in there. I'd hate to see you undo the work you're about to do.

There's lots of info around on the right materials to use when bonding to old glass but if you have any questions feel free to ask....theres a few of here that are multi talented..we can fuck around AND restore boats lol

I know there's knowledge out there if I get over my head, thanks Doc. I will be drilling the core after I get the stringers out and give it a good cleaning. I'll bash it with a hammer and all those typical things lol... Gotta say though, for a small boat with poor build reputation and next to no core, boomer and I were both standing up and walking around in it after the floor was out, no signs of flex or weakness anywhere. Except for the nose, thin there, and you can see through the deck from underneath...

it is surprisingly solid without a floor. shaun has a wicked idea of how he wants to build his boat. i'll leave the details up to him to explain. i cant wait till its done.
