Overal plan and next steps for T inspection process

The Plan
The plan is to have complete record documentation for every T boat that races in a TORC Event in 2013.

Next Steps
Erik the TORC Membership Director will forward the list of T class members to our T Coordinator.
There will be a booklet e-mailed to T racers. This booklet will outline all necessary and required information.
The inspection will be 3 separate stages. The last stage sign off is on the launch ramp.
I hope to have the inspection form as an Electronic Smart Form that will be e-mailed to the T racers.
The actual on race site form will be 3 parts. One copy goes to the racer, one copy goes to TORC executive and one to the inspector.

'Erik the TORC Membership Director'????...SIGH!,...Being from good Nordic stock, long gone are days of 'Erik the....Viking, Red, Slayer, Pluderer, Conqueror', not to mention fair share of women & wine.

Maybe I should have posted this directly, but I didn't want people to know who I am. First I am not a T racer, but I did race in stock Outboard for several years. I have been thinking about your posts about cheating and especially how the real National running competitors thought of me. I was younger then and thinking back very selfish. I convinced myself that I was just cheating to be competitive. Now, I realize I just wanted the recognition of being looked up to as a winner in my class. Now I realize that the National Racers in the class were laughing at me. They didn't respect me. They knew what I was. They never said anything even when I bragged to others that I beat these NATIONAL CHAMPS in Canada. To them I say I am sorry. I was a selfish JERK!!

I think you wanted to get this off your chest. I am pleased to post it for you.

I saw a 60 hp Johnson on Kijji in running conditon. Would it be competitive in T class as is?

There are some things to consider. First, is it a 3 cylinder 60 hp or is it a 2 cylnder 60 hp.
Second is it a long or short shaft. Third, what boat do you plan on running?

If it is a 2 cylinder 60 hp. That makes it a T750 class motor. It would be competitive as is.
The transom height will determine the shaft length of the motor. If you plan on a boat with a 20 inch transom, you need a short shaft motor. If your thinking of an older VooDoo. It has a 24 in transom. You can cut the transom down to run the short shaft or run a long shaft.

If it is a 3 cylinder 60 hp. It would be a T850 class motor and would not be competitive without up dating it to 70 hp specs. If it is a pre 1975 60 hp model don't waste your time.

For those just getting interested in T class we do have some unaltered out of the box motors in the classes. We have a 70CES Yamaha in T850, there will be a 50D Tohatsu in T750 and if your planning to run GT30. That class is an out of the box class.

Have you been able to get the port specs for all the OMC 56 motors?

Yes, the SST 60 port specs are on the OPC site.
We just received the port specs for the fishing motor bridge port and the oval port motors.
Next step is to check some motors and new sleeves to see how much variance there is motor to motor.
With that information we can add the + or - factor to the measurements.
This will be in the T booklet.
Remember we are only talking a few thousands of an inch. You are 100 % safe if you measure your block and clean up the ports. That is all you need to do,
We are also working on the heads. We have confirmation that the only difference in the two models of the bridge port fishing motors is the decompression hole which does give a lower compression reading at cranking rpm. We will have a lower compression spec number for those motors to be fair. Feedback from the group indicate the reading is in the low 140 range. If you have one of these motors please forward your reading. The SST60 head spec with the 28.5 cc volume is very close to 160 on a non decompression holed fishing 56r. We need to get more feed back on the oval port head and the head for the SST60. We ran the stock fishing motor head on Dave's SST 60 motor until Dunnville 2011. It was over 32 cc and below 140 . At Dunnville we ran a 31.4 cc head and he was in the 150-155 range. So we are close. The interesting part was the difference in performance. The higher compression head gave him 5 mph more top end. 67 compared to 62. The lower compression head actually got to 62 mph faster than the other head. That is why he won Waterford and also why he had so much difficulty at Dunnville in 2010. The two different course lengths are the reason.
If you watched Dave and Scott race in Dunnville in 2011 you saw the different characteristics of the fishing motor and the SST 60 motor. Scott ran a 56 fishing motor and Dave's was a low compression SST 60. Lap after lap Scott would pull Dave out of the corner and Dave would run him down at the end of the straights. On the last lap the only pass Dave could try was to drive deeper into the last corner and try to carry more speed thru the turn on the outside of Scott and then out drag him to the finish. He end up hooking the boat in the turn. If someone has the video they should post it. It is a good teaching reference.

i'm just an outsider looking in but it seems to me the Tboat classes are very competitive right now. and in my experience not in boating but in human behaviour .. if you make it hard to race with paperwork and evening out the field by setting rules that create hoops people have to jump through this sport wont grow.

people want easy weekend fun. if its too hard to race nobody will do it.

the field will even its self because no one wants to race alone.

ThunderCats, the two man tunnel hulls you saw at Dunnville and Gravenhurst, welcomes anyone who feels T750 or T850 class might be getting too technical for them, haha. Pretty simple rules over here.

I believe all T750 and T850 class motors are legal in ThunderCats in one class or another. New and used hulls available. Tube/ski/fish/have fun/snorkel/take 4 people out/store in corner of garage when not racing.

The basics:

MiniCat - Open to MiniCat hulls and ThunderCat hulls with any commercially available stock out of the box motors up to 15 hp.

TC750S - Any commercially available stock out of the box motors up to 50 hp. Effective 2014, engines must be models that meet CARB 3 Star ratings.

TC750 - Any motors that don't exceed 50 hp ratings.

P750 - Box stock Tohatsu 50D engines. True UIM world class rules. Race all over the world. Get the chicks and the $$. haha.

X Class - Motors that don't exceed 950cc.

Ages 9 years and up.

4 Ontario teams currently. 8-10 Michigan area teams.
