CNC made 2 stroke Sleeves...Exactly the same!! No porting!

I happened to notice some sleeves being installed at the machine shop to-day and was surprised that they were 100 percent exactly the same. Years ago they would have to match port the sleeves to make sure they were the same. The rules allowed for a few thou variance in size and position due to variances in manufacturing. It has always been a grey area in the rule books and in the term blue printing. The problem becomes greater when you allow alterations in stock porting. The machine shop bored out the old sleeves. The did not remove the complete sleeve. That process made the position of the new sleeve exactly the same in each hole. It corrected any differences in manufacturing. They installed the new CNC made sleeves.
Perfect match! Rather than say you can do this and that to the porting. Just say you cannot alter PERIOD you can only replace.
Anyone seen similar work or better still done it?

The issue becomes whether the sleave goes in the block the same for each sleave....I'll give you a hint...they don't lol. Then you're back to port matching and blueprinting.

The new 2.5 billet Merc block that's in development is being made with keyed sleeves that can be swapped very easily with a supplied special tool.
You'll be able to swap sleeves at a race site in the event of a problem.

That will be something. Maybe geiger can whip me a billet 3 cylinder together lol.

Geiger an I are developing a 60 ci v6, basically a scaled down 300 drag..it should really wake up the T-850 class :D :lol:

sounds good for a bit of sport.
apart from the amount of noise it will produce and get banned from everywhere.

The machine shop here did not do the modification or make the sleeves, they were seeing if they could put larger crank bearings. The motor was either a large chainsaw motor or a motorcycle motor.

Boomer this would be an interesting project for you. For SST70 the best optional was to run a V6 block using only 3 cylinders.
For the 1 liter T motor use a 2 liter champ V6 and run it on 3 cylinders. Kevin has wanted a mod T class. You could test this on your Baja hull.
