Ok he is being smart about it you don't just jump in them a drive it takes some time to get comfortable driving them and learning how they react maybe next year :)

Well got it out this weekend with a 6" off set jack plate. Managed to see just shy of 70mph with a 26 pitch 4 blade trophy prop with the jack plate only up about 2-3". Have a 26 pitch chopper to try next, once we get a new water pressure gauge in we will try some more motor height. Its got an off shore case so it should be fine but dident wanna chance it lol.

Does your buddy have a temperature gauge as well? When you say 2-3" up you should refer to the nose of the lower unit and its relation to the pad on the boat. It helps the gurus around here as it doesn't matter then what holes on the jack plate you are using then for example.

And yes time to get a Charger over a Sidewinder!

Yea well see how the winder is with the delta pad bottom now instead of round. Ill see where the bullets at in relation to the bottom of the boat and report back

Heres a pic of the motor height on the first run with the 4 blade trophy. Got the chopper on now and new water gauge on the way. And yes its also got a temp gauge.

Raise it up. I ran my DL with a 200 merc 1/2" below the pad, 6" back, with a 28 and 30 chopper. Prob could have gone higher...

Eyeballing it from the pic I'd go up as high as that plate goes! Measure it with a straightedge down the pad to the nose at neutral trim.

X2 measure the height at full lift on the jack plate, you might be able to mount the motor higher on the plate as well.
